This Model Solar Public Lighting Specification is designed to help accelerate the adoption of solar LED lighting by assisting buyers, vendors, contractors, funders and advisors to more confidently, robustly, efficiently and economically procure and deploy solar LEDs.
Solar LED lighting has undergone dramatic transformation in recent years. Highly energy efficient LEDs have markedly reduced energy consumption and improved battery technologies have enhanced capability. The emergence of intelligent battery management systems, connected smart controls and motion sensors suitable for use with solar lighting systems are further reducing energy consumption as well as enhancing capabilities and safety. This specification incorporates these industry developments to help those wanting to procure solar LEDs.
The aim of this model strategy is to be:
- Technically robust and current;
- Compatible with AS/NZS standards and specifications while filing in gaps where AS/NZS guidance does not exist or is not suitably current;
- Written concisely in easy to understand language;
- Applicable to large and small projects in both urban and rural application;
- Structured to include a range of selectable options to be chosen by the user to deliver a customised specification meeting their needs; and
- Freely available to reduce barriers to solar LED uptake and dramatically increase their likely procurement and application.
